Beginning Week 4

I apologize for leaving you out of the loop for a while...I don't often find time to sit at the computer to do my work. Even now, I got up at 6:10 and finally logged into blogger and I have two boys wanting my attention already!

We have now completed our three weeks in ancient Egypt. Benjamin built a Lego pyramid (above), Ezra made a tomb painting with plaster of paris, Benjamin and Micaiah made button jewelry in Egyptian style (see his ring, bracelet, and necklace), and Ezra made a small clay bowl.

Now we are headed back to the beginning of time. We will be studying Genesis 1-10 and talking about creation through the flood. Next week we'll continue to Genesis 11 (Tower of Babel) and look at ancient Mesopotamia.

Our schedule is filled with soccer, too. The homeschooling group has Friday afternoon soccer which we are going to. There are more than 100 kids ages 4-18 who participate! Ezra and Benjamin are on the same AYSO soccer team this year with Mark assistant coaching. Games are on Sunday afternoons and practice is on Tuesday. And then the boys were asked if they would like to help out as ball boys for the varsity girls soccer team...so we throw in yet another soccer schedule into our weekly mix. That one is more variable, though, so this week we have a Saturday game to go to. It's a good thing they really like soccer!

These pictures are very different from ones we have done in the past waiting for the bus, but this is what the first day of school looked like! Notice how Ezra and Benjamin are working, and Micaiah is playing on the HeroScape board...

Our First Week

Things have gone really well for our first week of school. On Monday, the boys fill out their work for each day of the week and cross it off as they finish. This has worked really well. They come to me to get something started and then head off to wherever they want to work on it. Benjamin has been especially proud of getting done before lunch!

Our main humanities curriculum is Tapestry of Grace. We are really glad we found this and look forward to what this year has in store for us! The first year of Tapestry is ancient civilizations, starting in Egypt. As projects for this week, Benjamin made an Egyptian paddle doll and Ezra played an Egyptian board game called Senat. Then Micaiah saw the paints out and had to join in!
